ODYSSEY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTERS
Healing Beyond the Surface
We are committed to guiding individuals toward long-term sobriety by treating the underlying causes of substance use disorders — not simply managing short-term symptoms.
Our structured, evidence-based approach fosters stability, resilience, and sustainable recovery.
For Patients and Families
At Athena, we understand that entering treatment can feel overwhelming—for both patients and their loved ones. Our admissions process is designed to be clear, supportive, and stress-free. Below is an overview of what patients and families can expect at each stage of care.

1. Pre-Admission Assessment

2. Admission

3. Intake and Orientation

4. Treatment

5. Family Involvement and Visitation
Every prospective patient completes a pre-admission assessment with a Sovereign Health admissions representative, either by phone or in person. This assessment helps our clinical team gather important information about the patient’s physical health, mental health history, and substance use concerns.
This step is essential to creating a personalized treatment plan. Unlike many treatment facilities, Sovereign Health tailors care to each individual’s unique needs from the very beginning. During this time, patients and families are encouraged to ask questions, and admissions staff will review what to bring and how to prepare for treatment.
After the pre-admission assessment is complete, an admission date is scheduled. Family members are encouraged to attend whenever possible. It’s common for patients to feel anxious—especially if this is their first treatment experience—and having family support can ease these concerns while also helping loved ones understand the treatment environment.
Admission day is typically the busiest part of the process. During this time, paperwork is completed, insurance information is reviewed, and patients and families are oriented to program guidelines, daily schedules, and expectations. Our staff welcomes questions and is available to address any concerns.
Following admission, the intake process is completed. This includes finalizing the patient’s individualized treatment plan, answering remaining questions, and helping families transition out for the time being. Depending on arrival time, patients may participate in scheduled groups or join peers for meals.
Patients are introduced to Sovereign Health staff and begin building connections with others in recovery, helping them feel supported from the very start.
Treatment is delivered based on each patient’s individualized plan, which is developed during the pre-admission and intake process. Sovereign Health offers a comprehensive range of evidence-based and holistic therapies to support healing of the mind, body, and spirit.
As patients progress, treatment plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted to reflect growth, changing needs, and recovery goals.
Family involvement typically begins once the patient has adjusted to treatment, usually after the first week. Families play an important role in the recovery process and are encouraged to participate in family therapy sessions designed to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and promote healing.
Family participation is not about blame—it is about understanding, support, and shared recovery. Every family member has the opportunity to be heard in a respectful and therapeutic environment.
All visitors must be pre-approved by Sovereign Health staff. Patients submit visitation requests through their primary therapist no later than Wednesday for weekend visits, which take place on Saturdays and Sundays. Visits occur in designated areas, and HIPAA regulations prohibit access to residential or restricted spaces.

6. Discharge and Continuing Care
Treatment typically lasts between 30 and 90 days, depending on individual needs. Upon discharge, patients leave with the tools, education, and coping skills necessary to continue their recovery journey.
Recovery does not end at discharge. Patients are encouraged to maintain strong family support, participate in community recovery resources such as 12-step or peer-support programs, and engage in continuing care when available. Many Sovereign Health facilities offer ongoing support services to help patients navigate the critical first year of recovery.
